Meet Eli Licht
Eli Licht is a lifelong Dubuque resident who believes that community, opportunity, and family are the foundation of Iowa’s future. Born and raised right here, Eli understands what makes Dubuque special — strong families, great schools, hardworking people, and a shared commitment to looking out for one another.
Family is at the heart of everything Eli does. He and his family are proud to call Dubuque home, and he’s running to make sure it remains a place where families can build a good life, raise their kids, and stay for generations to come.
As a former principal and current special education chair, Eli has dedicated his career to helping students succeed and supporting teachers in the classroom. He’s seen firsthand how state policies affect local schools — from funding and staffing to special education services — and he knows that investing in education means investing in the future of our communities.
Eli also serves as Chair of the Dubuque County Democrats, where he’s worked to bring people together, expand civic engagement, and give working families a stronger voice in local and state government. His leadership has always been grounded in listening, collaboration, and finding common-sense solutions that put people first.
He’s committed to fighting for strong public schools, affordable living, and keeping our families in Iowa. Eli knows no one should have to choose between paying medical bills and putting food on the table, and every child — no matter their zip code or background — deserves a fair shot at success.
Outside of work, Eli is a hunter, fisherman, and avid sports fan who loves the outdoors and the traditions that bring Iowans together — from a morning in the woods to a Friday night under the lights. Those experiences have taught him patience, teamwork, and perseverance — the same values he’ll take with him to the Iowa House.
Eli’s vision is simple: strengthen our schools, create opportunity, and protect the quality of life that makes Dubuque such a great place to live. He believes in common sense, honesty, and listening to the people he serves — not special interests or political insiders.
Because for Eli, it’s not about politics — it’s about people, community, and the future we build together.
